Hi Ryan, Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps: • Press Windows key + X, select Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt. • In Command prompt type sfc/scannow and press enter. • Restart the computer. If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps: • Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”. • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works. Hope this information helps. Dec 02, 2013 This is due to the overhead Task Manager can cause when querying each Disk IO for each process/thread on the individual disk. Tweets about 'canitpro'. TaskManager and Cortana do not open up. I have another profile which works. Performed a system restore to 9/28/2015, at which point I know my current profile worked fine. Current profile is still not working. I am not in the mood to throw my current profile out and start all over again. Problems related to profiles have been around forever, so please suggest a profile recovery procedure that doesn't destroy days and weeks of work. I am having the same problem (can't open task manager), and in addition nothing happens when I try to open the admin-level command prompt as suggested (though I can open the non-admin level, but then I can't execute the sfc/scannow command). After several minutes, I received the error message: 'this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action....' Thus, I can't follow the advice given by Parth. Also, I can't create new file names in existing file structures. Any help appreciated. Same problem. Task manager not working, command prompt won't open ether so can't try any of the fixes. I've had plenty of issues with Windows 10 and have had to use these utilities a lot so they working up until a few days ago. How do I wind back to before the last Windows updates to see if that solves it? Also, how do I see exactly what date I 'upgraded' to Windows 10 because I want to know when I need to go back to Windows 7 by if all these issues with Windows 10 haven't been fixed.
